Frequently Asked Questions

General

  1. I cannot log in to my account.  I enter my username and password but the site refuses to authenticate me and show me my account information.  What should I do?

Check your browser settings to ensure that you are able to accept cookies.  AdSwappers uses cookies to authenticate you on our site.  If the site cannot send you a cookie when you log in, then you will continue to be viewed as a visitor.  When you log out, the values in the cookie are erased, so that nobody can access your account without your knowledge.  While some actions require you to log in directly, most can be performed simply by having the cookie set.  Therefore, it is important that you log out of our service if you are using a public or shared computer; otherwise people may be able to access your account without your knowledge.

  2. There is a constantly expanding number of advertising programs available at AdSwappers.  How do I determine which ones are best for my site?

We recommend that you try each service that we offer and determine how effective each form of advertising is for your site.  Each service is unique in that it uses a different medium to get your message across.  Some sites will perform better with one service, others will perform better with another.  After a few weeks using our service and monitoring your click-through rates and page-views, you should be able to tell which ads are working and which are not.

  3. Can webmasters buy, sell, or trade clicks with each other?

You can transfer clicks to any other member through the Account Manager by entering the other webmaster's username.  Once we put up the webmaster discussion forums, there will be a forum reserved specifically for trading and selling credits.  We are also working on other webmaster services sites that offer different types of credits to members.  To better serve you, we will create a central exchange where credits from different programs can be traded.  The exchange rate will continually vary according to the number of outstanding credits for each program.

  4. Is it considered SPAM if I ______?

YES!  If you have to ask about whether a method of promotion is considered SPAM, then it probably is.  We have a zero-tolerance policy for SPAM and may suspend your account even for a first offense.  As such, it is in your best interests to avoid using any questionable methods of promotion.  If you would like some suggestions for how to legitimately promote AdSwappers, visit the referral center.

ClickSwappers

  1. Why should I use ClickSwappers when other click exchanges sites offer 100 clicks, eternal happiness, and a housecat for every site that I visit?

ClickSwappers believes in offering the highest possible quality of service.  While other services may offer you more clicks per visit, they also force you to offer more than one click in order to bring people to your site.  At ClickSwappers, one click can always be exchanged for one 20 second visit.  You do not need to purchase additional services, alter the code on your site, or offer additional clicks in order to compete with other sites for visitors, as all member sites with unused clicks assigned to them have an equal probability of receiving a given visitor.  On ClickSwappers, one click is always worth one visit to your site.  Since we don't ever assign more than one click per visit, we do not accumulate a click-debt.  In other words, we never promise more than we can deliver. Most of our competitors offer 1 credit for spending 30 seconds at a site. Since we only require you to spend 20 seconds at sites you are not interested in, you can actually earn more credits with our service.

  2. What is a click-debt and why do you not want to have one?

If you give away more than one click per visit, the total number of outstanding clicks continues to increase as long as the service is available.  This is a click-debt.  By giving away less than one credit per visit, ClickSwappers is able to carefully manage the total number of outstanding clicks in order to offer the highest quality of service.  After all, the more outstanding clicks that there are at a given time, the longer it will take to direct the required number of visitors to your site.

  3. How do you determine how many credits can be sold or used in promotions without accumulating a click-debt?

Every month, ClickSwappers examines the number of clicks earned and spent in the previous month, as well as the total number of outstanding clicks, to determine how many additional clicks we can release without affecting our quality of service.  The number of clicks made available will also determine the price of each click for that month.

  4. Why am I required to spend at least 20 seconds on each site I visit?

We want to ensure that each visit is valuable to the member whose site is being visited.  20 seconds is ample time to get a feel for the site and see if its content interests you.  Requiring a minimum time spent on each site also helps prevent fraud and increase the quality of visits.

  5. Why must I visit as many sites as each of my referrals in order to get the maximum referral bonus?

ClickSwappers is designed as a site where webmasters can help other webmasters.  If your goal is simply to refer as many people as you can and then never visit members' sites, then ClickSwappers is not the program for you.  Since you join earlier than any of the people that you refer (obviously!) it is not unreasonable to expect you to to have generated at least as many credits as your most active referral.  Even if you do not visit more sites than each of your referrals, you will still receive credit for each referral up to the number of sites that you have visited.

StartSwappers

  1. Why do I only get credit for one start page every 20 seconds?

Offering only one credit per 20 seconds helps prevent fraud by ensuring that users do not open large numbers of windows in quick succession. Programs that do not have a time limit for start pages will offer lower quality page-views, as there is no incentive for the user to actually look at the site once it has loaded. Since our service loads ads in a maximized window and encourages users to spend time there, visitors will get a better feel for your site.

  1. What is the URL that I need to set my start page to?

The StartSwappers URL is: http://www.adswappers.com/startpage.cgi?username=[username] , where [username] is replaced with your AdSwappers username. You do not need to be logged in to use StartSwappers.

TimeSwappers

  1. Why do I sometimes not earn credit for time using TimeSwappers even when the status bars are green?

Sometimes our servers are down and ads cannot be loaded. When there are no ads displayed in the TimeSwappers window, it means that our servers are down temporarily. You only receive credits when ads are actually displayed.

  1. What conditions need to be satisfied for me to run the TimeSwappers software?

To earn TimeSwappers credits, you must be connected to the Internet and be actively using your computer. You do not need to be surfing the web, but you must be actively using your computer.

  1. Why can't I move the bar into the top or bottom 100 pixels of my monitor?

People are much more likely to ignore ads that are tucked away in the top 100 or bottom 100 pixels of the monitor. Remember that the more visible the advertising is and the less likely it is to be ignored, the more people will visit your site and the more valuable the credits you earn will be to you.

SearchSwappers

  1. Why do I only receive credit for searches made through the TimeSwappers software and not those additional searches made through the subsequent website?

Our goal is to encourage users to become accustomed to performing searches through the TimeSwappers software. We may change this policy later to make it easier to earn SearchSwappers credits.

  1. Why are there sometimes no results to my query?

The search engine used submits the keywords you entered to multiple search engines and consolidates the results. If there are no results to your query, try searching again using a subphrase or simpler terms.
